AutoCAD

AutoCAD is the industry set standard for technical drawing and design. From architecture to mechanical engineering, mastering it opens real career doors. Learn AutoCAD the way professionals actually use it in real life projects. So, no shortcuts, just learning it once and learning it right.

AutoCAD

Course Overview

From the first line to a plot-ready drawing set, this is what AutoCAD is for

Most AutoCAD learners pick up habits that slow them down for years. This course is built to prevent that. We start from workspace setup and template creation, move through drawing, modifying, annotating and dimensioning, and take you all the way to printing professional PDF sets using PUBLISH and Sheet Sets.

Every module reflects how real projects are handled, not textbook exercises. Students work with Xrefs, dynamic blocks, attribute extraction, parametric constraints and even a basic AutoLISP program.

By the end, students are not just familiar with AutoCAD, but are working in it the way a senior drafter would.

What You Will Learn?

Set up a custom CUI, build a master DWT loaded with layers and standards, including OSNAP and OTRACK.
Use PLINE over LINE, work with construction geometry before committing to final shapes, and edit smarter using grip editing, STRETCH with crossing windows, and reference-based ROTATE and SCALE.
Build a scalable layer naming convention, control visibility with Layer States and Filters, and dimension with a single annotative master style that handles scaling automatically across layouts.
Create dynamic blocks with parameters and visibility states, set up attribute blocks with ATTDEF, and extract live schedule data with DATAEXTRACTION, keeping drawings connected, not duplicated.
Work entirely in paper space for output, lock viewports, set up CTB plot style tables once and reuse them always, and deliver complete drawing packages using PUBLISH, Sheet Sets and eTransmit.

Why Choose Utkaarsh Education for AutoCAD?

Our Course Structure
From Module 1 to Module 12, the course follows the natural lifecycle of a real drawing project. Setup, drafting, editing, annotating, referencing, printing. Nothing is skipped, and nothing is taught out of context.

More Practical Learning
We do not teach AutoCAD by walking through modules. Every lesson is built around what professionals actually do on live projects. So you learn the reasoning behind each practice, not just the steps.

Professional Guidance
AutoCAD is a starting point. We complete the course with a clear path forward with Civil 3D, Revit, AutoLISP development, BIM workflows. So, our students' learning does not stop when the course does.

Best For Beginners
No prior experience is needed to start. As the course progresses from basic to advanced it includes going into dynamic blocks, DATAEXTRACTION, parametric constraints, AutoLISP basics.

Course Curriculum

A structured learning path designed to take you from basics to advanced topics.

Topics Covered:
  • Designing workspace with CUI editor- ribbons, shortcuts, tool palettes, customised to the workflow
  • Develop a master template (DWT) that is loaded with standards, layers and settings
  • Learn coordinate entry conventions - absolute, relative, polar
  • Make OSNAP, OTRACK, and status bar tools day-one habits, not an afterthought

Topics Covered:
  • Use PLINE instead of LINE where possible - polylines are simpler and easier to edit
  • Using construction geometry with XLINE and RAY before final shape commitment
  • Learn how to use all the input methods- dynamic input, direct distance entry and typing coordinates
  • Run OVERKILL at the beginning and frequently to maintain clean geometry

Topics Covered:
  • Study ROTATE and SCALE with reference options, match to the existing geometry without guessing
  • STRETCH - always use a crossing window
  • Grip editing for most quick edits instead of typing in commands, using spacebar to change modes
  • PURGE and AUDIT frequently, not only at the project completion

Topics Covered:
  • Never assign colour, linetype and lineweight to the object, assign it to the layer instead
  • Learn LTSCALE, CELTSCALE and PSLTSCALE to make your linetypes appear correct in model space and paper space
  • Enter simple command macros in the CUI and save them as tool palette buttons
  • Introduction to script files - automating repetitive processes in multiple drawings

Topics Covered:
  • Construct a naming convention that is scalable
  • Save Visibility settings for repetitive tasks with Layer States
  • Control huge drawing files without going crazy with Layer Filters
  • Why hatches must be associative and on a separate layer - never mixed with linework

Topics Covered:
  • Construct a single master dimension style with annotative scaling turned on - sub-styles do the rest
  • Use of dimension style overrides with a conscious decision, not as a workaround to poor setup
  • Learning about MTEXT fields that are live data, using them to enter title block dates, filenames, and sheet numbers

Topics Covered:
  • Build dynamic blocks using the Block Editor with parameters, actions and states of visibility
  • Set up attribute blocks properly using ATTDEF to support schedules
  • Use DATAEXTRACTION to extract attribute data to generate live door, room and material schedules
  • Xrefs to understand the distinction between attach and overlay, and use relative paths in all project folders

Topics Covered:
  • Use geometric constraints - parallel, perpendicular, tangent, equal - to create intent-driven drawing
  • Associate dimensional constraints with expressions in such a way that updating values updates geometry
  • Get to know ALIGN, NCOPY, and FLATTEN the advanced commands that most users never see
  • Author a simple AutoLISP program to automate one of the real repetition tasks

Topics Covered:
  • Model space should not be scaled; paper space is used for scaling and output
  • Lock all the viewports once scaled - any accidental zoom will break more drawings than any other accidental zoom
  • Map screen colours to printed lineweights: CTB plot style tables are used to map colour to weight - get this correct once and use it again
  • PUBLISH creates your complete set of drawings in PDF in a single process - add Sheet Sets to manage a complete project

Topics Covered:
  • Generate a complete set that includes site plan, floor plan, elevation and detail - on one well-organized file
  • Have Xrefs to maintain plan and elevation drawings in a linked and not duplicated state
  • Construct building and furniture programs based on attributed blocks and live data extraction
  • eTransmit helps package the drawings, Xrefs and fonts to be sent to consultants
  • Applicable across architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil design workflows

Topics Covered:
  • Map incoming layers of consultant files to standards using LAYTRANS
  • Customize a tool palette and keyboard shortcuts
  • How both Version control and file naming are as important as drawing quality
  • Self audit your own process - know what you waste time on and systematically remove it

Topics Covered:
  • PERFORM AUDIT, PURGE and OVERKILL on each file prior to issuing - not negotiable
  • In the end, create your final project of a full, plot-ready PDF package, using PUBLISH and Sheet Sets
  • Compare your work to professional standard, clean geometry, right scales, readable annotation
  • Next steps - Civil 3D, Revit, AutoLISP development, or BIM processes
